Plug-In Supply Inc, a new company based in Petaluma California has made the first sales of its battery boxes (customized in this case for lead-acid batteries) 9 days after announcing availability at the Embedded Systems Conference in Boston on September 20, 2007. These boxes are part of our line of PRIUS+ products to turn the Toyota Prius into a plug-in hybrid electric car. Robb Protheroe, a mechanical engineer, says "I founded the company to support the global community of people who can't wait anymore for Toyota and are seeking affordable and well-built aftermarket solutions to convert their cars into plug-in hybrids."

Darren Overby of DIY-MPG.com in San Anselmo California bought a PbA Battery box with high voltage electronics installed. It took less than an hour to bolt the pack into his 2004 Prius. Darren is completing the PRIUS+ install himself. On October 20 & 21, Darren’s car will be used to demonstrate how the conversion is done at the Maker Faire in Austin Texas.

When completed, Darren’s will be one of fewer than a hundred PHEVs in the world. www.calcars.org/where-phevs-are.html.
